Gun Control

I'm really divided over this argument, but I found this piece really interesting.

  1. I have been divided on this argument as well. I am not naive enough to think that banning all guns will stop gun violence. I have been shooting (at ranges) several times and I really enjoy it. People should be able to own guns, however semi-automatic weapons are not necessary for anyone outside of a war zone arena. I think there needs to be a ban on all semi-automatics and high quantity clips. There are no valid or reasonable uses for these things.

As for armed guards in schools, that makes me nervous. Even with proper training there is no guarantee they can act without collateral damage. There is also the concern of securing the weapon. If its a guard then it would obviously be on their person, if we are suggesting training principals then I am not okay with that. Guns and kids dont mix. As much as we try to prevent them it doesnt work. There is also cost considerations, etc. etc.

There is no single answer to gun violence. Its an overall deterioration of society- but surely we can all agree that having a weapon that fires upwards of 40 bullets a second is not necessary for any civilian.
